Abstract:
Selecting qualified individuals for certain responsibilities is among important duties of governments and organizations. Meritocracy means selecting individuals for positions and tasks according to their skills and capacities to increase the productivity of the organization. Institutionalization of meritocracy in organizations contributes to decrease in bureaucratic corruption and development of social justice.
Today, there are parameters for meritocracy in management, which are mainly based on skill and specialization. These skills can be technical, human, managerial, etc.
According to the Quran, specialization and skill are not the only conditions for selecting one for organizational and governmental positions; rather, commitment is another factor which should direct these skills and specializations. Commitment and specialization are the two main parameters for meritocracy. In Islam, meritocracy is rooted in justice and monotheistic worldview.
