Abstract:
The changes of scientific, social, and cultural phenomena are so rapid that they have brought about new challenges to the organizations. In the past, the managers of organizations tried to control the changes to reap the benefits through traditional and strategic planning. However, the turbulent environment led to the failure of their plans. "Future studies" is one of the new disciplines which can help the organizations to take the right decisions. Through Future Study, intellectual managers acquire knowledge about the future by analyzing the events and making use of creativity and genius. This kind of knowledge enables the managers to have a clear view of the future in the form of probable future, possible future, and ideal future and be able to better manage the organization by constructing several scenarios.
Using an analytical-descriptive approach, the present paper expounds the elementary concepts of Future Study to point out to the development of this discipline and its difference from similar concepts.

Abstract:
سرعت و دگرگونی ها در پدیده های علمی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی به گونه ای است که سازمان ها را با مشکل جدید روبه رو کرده است. مدیران سازمان ها، در گذشته با برنامه ریزی سنتی و برنامه ریزی راهبردی، می کوشیدند دگرگونی ها را به نفع سازمان مهار کنند؛ اما اکنون محیط پرتلاطم و نامطمئن، ناکامی برنامه ها را رقم می زند. یکی از دانش های جدید، و مفید برای هدایت سازمان ها، «آینده پژوهی» است. در آینده پژوهی، مدیران اندیشور با تحلیل رویدادها و به کارگیری خلاقیت و نبوغ، از آینده آگاهی می یابند. این آگاهی به صورت آینده‌ی محتمل، آینده‌ی ممکن، و آینده‌ی مطلوب می تواند دریچه ای از آینده، پیش روی مدیران بگشاید تا آنان با شکل دادن سناریوها و طرح های متعدد، حرکت سازمان را بهتر مدیریت کنند.
این مقال، با رویکرد تحلیلی ـ توصیفی به تبیین مفاهیم اولیه آینده پژوهی، مراحل رشد این دانش، و تمایز آن از مفاهیم مشابه پرداخته است.
